            Everyone Is Equal

I am currently reading, “Catching Fire” by Suzanne Collins. This is the sequel to the first book, “The Hunger Games” also by Suzanne Collins. In these books it takes place in Panem, which is America that has been altered and is now futuristic. They are split up into 12 districts and the higher in number you get the less important you are. The capital is the most important out of all and has wealth, food, nice homes, makeup, and clothing. The people from the capital are so powerful and scary that the people of lower class feel week or unwelcome just by being in the presents of someone from the capital. People shouldn’t feel like they are not as good as someone else but in the capital everyone is ranked and it is very unfair.

I got this idea from when president snow is talking to Katniss in her own home. She feels scared and doubtful of who she is and what she is saying to him. I got this from when she thinks, “The mutual understanding that he can have me killed in a second makes me feel like I am the intruder. As if this is his home and I’m the uninvited party. I can completely understand how she can be afraid because the only reasons someone of such high class would travel all the way to district 12 is because something very bad has happened or is going on. And who wouldn’t be scared if they knew that s they said something wrong they could be killed on the spot and nobody would care. It makes you feel unimportant and small and makes you very afraid to disobey or up rise against people like this. I think that the capital wants this type of intimidation factor so that they will always be in power and there is nothing the districts can do about it.

On the other hand the way that President Snow talked to Katniss was almost friendly and polite.  This could have all been an act and maybe he just wanted information out of her but nobody what he said he tried to say it in the nicest of ways and all ways gave her compliments or said he was on her side. This might make them feel not so intimidated and maybe it shows that they may have more power but that still are the other district’s friends. However it is most likely that they want to form a bond of trust to make sure that nobody ever thinks about double crossing the or rising up against them and causing a revolution. They want the districts to think that everyone is friendly but also want them to do know that they have power over them and must be respected.

I think the author was trying to give a message about how nobody is better then anybody else and I think they are trying to make references to different movements. For example in the Civil Rights Movement the African Americans were treated differently form everyone else and everyone had power over them. It is the same in the book how some people have abusive power over others that the use to their advantage. It tries to give a message that you can overcome an obstacle by fighting for what you know is right and never stop fighting no matter how bad things get or how bad the challenge/ your opponent is you must face.

In my life I was involved in a lot of Gay Rights Movements to help support gay married because I have to moms.  Things were not always easy for us and there was all ways some time of person that tried to make us feel bad about who we were. These kinds of people thing there is only one perfect kind of person, which is untrue. Everyone is perfect in his or her own way and no matter how bad or imperfect this person or problem made us feel we always fought on and never stopped believing in what we knew and still know is right. Many peoples minds are starting to change and are starting to support gay marriage because they have seen are side and are stories by the way we fight. They see how much we care about what we know is right that they believe us when we say gay marriage is ok.

As you can see not everyone in the world is the same but everyone is equal. No matter your race, religion, sexuality, etc. everyone is the same. And when people question the thought that some kind of person is less then someone else that person fights because they know they are just as good as anyone else in the world. it’s the fight that we all have in us to tell the world we are who we are that makes us humans. That makes us equal.
